This question has plagued my mind since childhood when I first began hearing these statements. Even more so today in recent years, random people who I make conversation with end up carrying on the conversation intimately, especially if the topic is on our perception of life, understanding and appreciation of imperfection, and issues that I concern the likes of god and conflicting religions. It just boggles my mind because I will be brutally honest about who I am; I’m just an 18 year old that grew up too fast, became a crystal meth addict (something that I still struggle with today), and am also terrified to take opportunities where I feel the hope indicating that whatever opportunity is in front of me is within easy reach. I’ve always been apprehensive about presenting this question to anybody; I don’t know what to believe anymore… I feel like such a dirty and hopeless drug addict, no matter how deceptive I supposedly appear to people. I know who I am and what I’ve done and am grateful for everything I’ve learned through my 8 years of addiction. I wouldn’t take it back for anything, otherwise, I would be living the “normal” life that everybody thrives for. No offense to anybody, but living a “normal life” is synonymous with sitting stagnant and confinement of authenticity. I just have a hard time choosing what to believe; All I do is take care of my sisters, the house, work on getting into college, write/record/DJ music, and struggle with addiction. It’s gotten to the point to where it’s almost abnormal for so many people to look me in the eyes with wonder and intrigue and tell me that I’m the one responsible for leading a generation that, for the most part, despise everything I stand for beside the fact that I walk alone with a little integrity and that I have the ability to be honest rather than the typical superficial teen. If anybody else has experienced anything like this or has anything to shed some light on my confusion, I’d greatly appreciate it. I felt like there were almost no possible ways to remain humble while writing this, so if this somehow comes out sounding arrogant, it’s because I honestly didn’t know how to word my situation without just giving my experience in detail.
