Crystal Meth Facts: What Are My Rights as a Custodial Parent?
Question by dgb: What are my rights as a custodial parent?
On may 11th I was awarded temp full physical custody of my two kids, ages 5 and 9. The judge left it to me to make the arangements for supervised visitations for the mother. He did not give me or the mom a court date or any other instructions when to come back (there is dcfs case open on both of us but the case worker said they where satisfied with the courts decision). The mother is being accused of drug abuse (crystal meth). she failed to show for the dcfs drug test, so the courts know that. What should i expect as far as another court date, since i have temp custody? and if i feel the mom is not getting any batter, can i file an order to show cause and asks that all her rights be taken away? We both share joint legal custody. and if she is not following the guidelines i set for the visitations, can i ask to the court to appoint some one and a place for the visitations? every time me and her are around there is always an arguement, and i don’t want my kids to be around that. so do i have the right to stop her visitations based on the fact that she may be high?

The kids need their mom clean and sober.
Obviously the courts entrusted that to you for now. Depending where she is in her recovery from that poison, she may be able to derive some support from being in her kids lives.
