Crystal Meth Facts: Can I Reapply for a Job After Previously Being Ineligible Due to Health Reasons?
Question by superwhack: Can i reapply for a job after previously being ineligible due to health reasons?
last year, i applied for a job as a youth counselor for a cruise line. i was highly qualified, had a successful interview, and got the job. i had signed my contract and sent them all of the required information (copy of passport, cpr/first aid certification, etc.), and then sent my medical report. i had been taking the medication vyvanse (an amphetamine) and wouldn’t have mentioned it expect that part of the medical report included a drug test that screened for amphetamines, so i wanted to clarify that this was a doctor prescribed medication- which i stated was for the treatment of ADD- and that i wasn’t like freebasing crystal meth or anything. anyway, i got a response a few days later saying that certain conditions and medications disqualified someone for being an eligible employee.
it was beyond frustrating and disappointing to say the least, as i had spent quite a few months preparing for the job and had been looking forward to it. but in a separate auto-response e-mail i received from them, it was stated that: “Your resume will be kept on file for 1 year for future consideration. Should another opportunity match your experience and qualifications, we will contact you at that time.”…it’s been over a year since i applied; does this mean that i would be able to reapply at this time without having last year’s circumstances on file/that i would have a “clean slate” so to speak? (also the the ADD is very minor and the vyvanse is moreso for fatigue, so i would now know to simply not take it for a couple of weeks in order to pass the urine test so that it isn’t an issue) i am very curious about the state of my eligibility; any help or information would be greatly appreciated!
also: there is a question on the application asking if you have previously applied for employment with the company…what should i say in this specific situation? i don’t want to say “yes” because i don’t want to draw attention to what happened last year, but i don’t want to say “no” if they do in fact have my resume and application on file…what is the best course of action?
ALSO: it’s really not necessary for me to take the medication; the diagnosis was made when i was an adolescent and still in school and doesn’t pose any sort of impairment or anything anymore as i have pretty much outgrown it and i could certainly function without it, particularly for the sake of the job , so would it be possible to explain that it is no longer an issue/get a doctor’s note or something along the lines of that and then continue with the process normally and without problems?

They will know you have applied previously as soon as they enter your ssn into their system. The only way you can re-apply is if your health issue is no longer in existence.
If you do apply and leave that off and it comes out later you will be fired immediately.
For things like this, honesty is the best policy.
