Crystal Meth Facts: What Is My Brother Thinking?
Question by Gerald: What is my brother thinking?
My brother is 19-years old and recently started taking crystal meth. I don’t know how often he’s used or when he even started, but he tells me he smokes it.
I was shocked when he told me this, and wanted to know why he’d start using such a filthy, evil drug. He said it’s because he’s always been a loner and has never really had any friends except one other guy whom he considered his best friend. Sure he was friendly with most people, he just had no friends.
Recently my brother moved from our old town and in the process lost contact with his friend. He said it was strange because after he moved, it seemed his friend started to dislike him, as in always blowing him off on offers to chill, never responding to his texts anymore, rejecting him on Facebook, and just generally not wanting anything more to do with my brother.
At that point, he said, he just stopped caring altogether. He said that he felt like a total loner and a friendless loser and one day decided to just f*ck it and try to find contentment in this hard drug.
He’s still friendless, now he’s just a drug addict on top of it all. I’m trying to get him into rehab.
The thing I’m wondering is, why would he turn to drugs over some loser friend? We all lose friends at some point along the way, but taking something that will kill you is very extreme.

I don’t understand why anyone would do something like that and I’m not even sure the users themselves really know why they do it. I’ve had some pretty low points in my life, but never had any desire to turn to drugs or alcohol to help me cope. In fact, I have always been just the opposite and steered clear of that stuff during the low points. I always wanted a clear head to logically figure out what to do next, so I don’t understand people like your brother (or my own brother). Their minds just work different than ours.
You’re absolutely correct to be concerned and if you can get your parents involved, please do. Your brother needs help and the sooner he gets it, the better off the entire family will be. I’ve lost many friends and family members to crystal and it’s been painful for all involved. I don’t think I have to tell you what you can expect if your brother doesn’t get help, because most logical people are fully aware of the behavior involved with addiction to crystal meth. Most families will deny it in the beginning, but eventually it becomes undeniable and something must be done to help the addict before it’s too late.
